Pipe smoking is a historic hobby.
Let me elaborate.
Specifically on the designation of smoking as a hobby. At first glance, this may seem to be at odds with what you know about smoking (though if you’re reading this, odds are you’re a pipe smoker yourself and have come to this page via my YouTube channel, or through my shameless self-promotion on social media).
Smoking, in the modern age, is often viewed as a reactionary act that comes as a result of nicotine addiction. Images of office workers making a mad-dash to the designated smoking area to suck down a couple quick smokes, hoping to tide themselves over until their next break leap immediately to mind. It’s a need that must be met, plain and simple, and there’s nothing more to it than that. This is the modern view of it: Smoking is a habit, plain and simple.
And this is something that can be true, but for pipe smokers it often isn’t. It’s much more than that. It’s a an experience for all 5 senses, it’s meditation, it’s dessert. It’s a pastime and a hobby and a treat.
In these pages, I hope to share my love of pipe smoking with you, as well as my love of other such pleasures of life. I hope you’ll enjoy reading about it as much as I will enjoy writing about it.
